Abstract:
An attempt to study Persian polysemy
linguistically and find ways to teach them
to non-native speakers. It consists of four
chapters. The first one, introduction,
describes expressions used in the thesis;
the second chapter, review of literature,
discusses past studies in teaching
vocabulary and polysemy. The third chapter
includes a linguistic study on Persian
polysemy and classifies the meanings of such
words. The fourth chapter is on a survey in
this area and presents the findings in terms
of some principles, such as (1) it is
advisable to teach polysemy in context, and
(2) written texts can help comprehension of
such words. Finally, the appendix includes
the questionnaires and the tests.
