Abstract:
The objective of this sociolinguistic study
is to provide a strategy for finding the
most suitable and frequently used proverbs
for materials on teaching Persian for
non-native speakers. Consists of 5
chapters and 3 appendices. Chapters 1 and 2
discuss the design of the study and review
of the literature on theoretical issues such
as definitions of proverbs, etc. Chapter 3
describes semantic differentiation and the
methodology used in the research. Chapter 4
includes the statistical analyses on the
basis of the 20 proverbs understudy in terms
of the mean of cultural and sociological
values respondents have placed. Chapter 5,
the conclusion, gives samples of the most
suitable proverbs from the cultural and
social perspective and some proverbs that do
not have much social and cultural values.
The appendices comprise the questionnaire,
tables of raw data and the frequencies.
