Abstract:
Aims to answer the question, “Are the
differences in negation in Persian and
English related in learning Persian for
native speakers of English?” Consists of 5
chapters. Chapter 1 presents the
introduction and the research objectives.
Chapter 2 presents the ideas for and against
contrastive analysis. Chapter 3 focuses on
a contrastive analysis of negation in the
syntactic structures of Persian and
English. Chapter 4 discusses the error
analysis as found in the test, and chapter
5 presents the results and suggestions for
further studies. Concludes that in general
negation is more complicated in English than
in Persian and seems that for this very
reason the number of such errors for native
speakers of English learning Persian, is
fewer than native speakers of Persian
learning English. Moreover, not all errors
can be predicted using contrastive
analysis. At the end, a variety of
exercises are provided so as to help
teachers help their students in learning
Persian.
