The Seventh District of Tehran

Background Evaluation and Detection of Socially Crisis Inducing Focal Points

The Demographic Studies department was responsible for the execution of this field study. The following topics were addressed:

  • Demographic status quo within the district: incongruities in composition and distribution of population, indigenous versus immigrant residents.

  • Social status quo: family, conjugal and literacy inadequacies.

  • Socio-economic status quo: inadequacies in economic activities, employment and livelihood.

  • Urban development: irregularities in land use, communications network, availability of green/open spaces, and housing.

  • Cultural matters: inadequacies in cultural / entertainment / leisure centers, and sport facilities.

  • City services and public transportation: inadequacies in medical services, pollution alleviation, and traffic control.

  • Social tensions: crisis inducing focal points

Upon completion of the fact finding phase of the project, in conjunction with the Urban Studies department, solutions to the above inadequacies and incongruities were outlined and proposed to the municipality for strategy and planning modifications. After consultative meetings a prioritization schema was also developed.
